Our Beginnings
The funeral home was founded in 1947 as Spurgeon Brothers Funeral Home by Charles and Jennings "Jay" Spurgeon. Charles worked at the funeral home daily until his retirement in 1984 when he sold the business to Mark E. and Vicki Hickman. Mark's parents, the late Wilson "Hick" and Betty Lee Duckworth Hickman, were Doddridge County natives.
