Wilton Williams Obituary

Wilton E. "Bud" Williams Jr., 87, of Tollgate passed away on May 23, 2013 at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital after a long struggle with heart disease.

He was born on January 12, 1926 in Philippi, a son of the late Wilton E. Williams Sr. and Nell Squires Williams. On May 12, 1945 he married his childhood sweetheart Janice Le Sommerville Williams who survives.

Surviving are one daughter, Diana Weiss, New Hope, PA, two sons, Phillip Kent Williams and wife Pamela, Nashville, TN, Timothy A. Williams and wife Michelle, Cold Springs, KY. He was also a grandfather of five grandchildren, Jessica L. Williams, Loma Linda, CA, Tyler J. Williams and wife Teagan, Kettering, OH, Steven M. Williams, Cincinnati, OH, Hannah & Rebecca Williams, Cold Springs, KY. One brother, Ronald J. Williams, two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Guffey and Patricia Ann Boyce preceded him in death.

Mr. Williams attended Doddridge County High School, where he played basketball and football. He was captain of the football team and president of the Senior Class of 1944. Wilton enlisted in the Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet before finishing high school. After serving his country during WWII he earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering at West Virginia University school of Mining and Engineering and later earned his professional engineering license. He worked for Weirton Steel as an engineer. In 1952 he became foreman of Utilities Division of United States Steel, Morrisville, PA from which he retired as Superintendent of Utilities in 1972. Wilton and his family relocated close to their hometown of West Union to farm and raise sheep and cows. He was called back by U.S. Steel Engineers and Consultants for overseas work in Taiwan. He continued several assignments to Turkey and other European Countries. Wilton was a respected and beloved member of the Tollgate Seventh Day Adventist Church. He held the position of delegate to the Columbia Union Conference of the Adventist Church and was president of the Instrument Society of America. Wilton was very active in Habitat for Humanity. He held offices in several other organizations and was a Boys Scout Leader.

A memorial service will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at 2:00PM with Pastors Daniel Morikone, Bill Clark, Randall Murphy as well as Dr. Jim Levos presiding. There will be a time of gathering one hour prior to the service. Private interment services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tollgate Seventh Day Adventist Church Building Fund or the American Heart Association.
