William S. Bill Calhoun, 94, of Greenwood departed this life on December 14, 2014. He was born on October 25, 1920 in Pullman, the son of the late Willie Guile and Rebecca Dorothy Schmidt Calhoun. Following the 1991death of his first wife, Mary Margaret Ellifritt Calhoun, mother of his children, he remarried. His second wife, Evelyn Furner Calhoun died in July 1999.
Bill leaves behind two daughters, Cheryl Pullen and husband, J. Mark, of Shepherdstown; Barbara Lloyd and husband, Bob of Morgantown; one son, Roger Calhoun and wife, Mary of Scott Depot; one sister, Bettie Fox of Brunswick, GA, two brothers, Jack Calhoun and wife, Doris, of West Union, and Rev. Sam Calhoun and wife, Ellen of Clinton, NJ, as well as four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his close friend, Dorothy Bode of West Union. Three siblings preceded him in death: Philip Blair Calhoun, Robert Calhoun and Anita Belle Brown.
Bill was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was past president of the Doddridge County Historical Society. He was member of Mason Friendship Lodge #56 AF & AM, and VFW #3408 West Union. Bill is a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church and also the Enon Baptist Church in Salem.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 11AM with Pastor Randy Stewart presiding. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the combined Doddridge County Veterans organizations. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 4PM-7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Doddridge County Historical Society or the WV Chapter Alzheimers Association at 1601 Second Avenue, Charleston, WV 25387.
