Shirley "Butch" James Hayes

Shirley “Butch” James Hayes, 81 of Center Point passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Rosewood Center, Grafton, WV. He was born February 26, 1943 in Steubenville, OH, son of the late James Lester and Eva Ash Hayes. He attended Doddridge County High School. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.  He was a forklift operator for Garden Fresh in Hepzibah. Butch later worked at Petroleum Development Corporation as a well tender,  He was a lifelong farmer,  a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Marjorie Ann Knotts Hayes whom he married on November 24, 1973; one daughter, Connie Lynn Hayes Travis and husband Zachary, West Union; three grandchildren, Kaitlynne Booher and husband Dustin, Kaden Anderson and fiancée, Haley Nutt, and Kordale Travis; two great grandchildren, Paislee and Westin; one sister, Mildred Jo Worshell and husband Walter, Burgettstown, PA; two brothers-in-law, Brooks D Yeater, Shinnston, Charles Knotts and wife Lisa, Uhrichsville, OH; one sister-in-law, Linda Knotts, Tallahassee, FL; nieces and nephews, Darlene McCasland and husband Jeffrey, William “Billy” Yeater, Sheila Yeater, Dawn Fife, Collin Fife, Jimmy Worstell, Brenda Worstell, Holly Holmes and husband Alan, Michelle Knotts, Nancy Struffer, Dean Struffer, Carrie Bowie, Garrett Knotts, Caleb Knotts, Chad Knotts, Clara Knotts-Gonzalez, James Knotts, and Charles Knotts. In addition to his parents, Butch is preceded in death one daughter, Nancy G Hayes; sisters, Nancy June Yeater, Martha Bell Fife and husband Frederick; three brothers-in-laws, Arthur Knotts and wife Peg, Richard Knotts and wife Jean, and James Knotts. Family will receive friends at Center Point Christian Church, Center Point WV on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 11 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM with Pastor Shawn Dahlheimer officiating. Interment will follow at Center Point Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and the US Army Honor Guard.
