Setsuko Shields Obituary

Setsuko Rosie Shields, 83 of Rt. 2 West Union, (Englands Run Road) departed this life on Thursday, December 30, 2010. She was born on February 4, 1927 in Tokyo, Japan a daughter of the late Kiyoshi and Yoshi Tsukamoto Yoshimura. Her husband of 53 years Wilford G. Shields survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Ruby Yoshi Shields-Tone and husband Hideo Tone, Tokyo, Japan; Rika Cassidy and husband Kevin, Kettering, OH; grandchildren, Adam, Caitlin, Sean and Brian Cassidy; two brothers, Teruo Yoshimura and wife Etsuko, Tokyo, Japan; Toshio Yoshimura, Tokyo, Japan; two sisters, Miwako Duer and husband Edward, Kobe, Japan; Yuriko Eda, Chiba, Japan.

Mrs. Shields graduated from Miyagi Gakuin High School and attended Miyagi Gakuin University as a voice and classical piano major. She later attended tailoring school. She was an employee of the Markey Company, West Union as a sales representative and seamstress for many years. Her hobbies included, sewing, quilting, reading, playing and listening to classical piano music and cooking for others. Rosie was a volunteer quilter for 12 years at Fort New Salem. She was a member of the Cleo Bloomers Womens Club. She will best be remembered for her work as a talented seamstress. Rosie was a deeply devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union, on Tuesday January 4, 2010 at 7PM with Pastor Bill Davis presiding. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 3PM until time of service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Fort New Salem Foundation, P.O. Box 191 Salem, WV 26426 Attention: Quilting/Weavers Building.
