Sandra Trent Obituary

Sandra T. Gum, 66, of New Milton passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2009 in her residence.

She was born February 14, 1943 in Blandville, Doddridge County a daughter of the late John Stanley and Lottie E. Hart Trent. On June 4, 1964 she married Joseph Gum who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Joe Gum, Portland, OR., Troy Gum and wife Tonya, Trevor Gum and wife Amanda, both of New Milton, 6 grandchildren, Tabetha Marrs, Stephanie (Nikki) Sheets, Landry Marrs, Troy T. Gum, II, Victoria Gum, Thane Gum, two great grandchildren, Jacey Lucas, Tyde Lucas, step mother, Ruth Trent, Salem, five sisters, Connie Ross and husband Jim, New Milton, Linda Hunt and husband Jake, Winfield, Vickie Thomas and husband Gareth, Ripley, Mary Sandy, Waverly, Darlene Cohen and husband, Aaron, Florida, three brothers, John Trent and wife Jackie, Randy Trent and wife Cathy, Rodney Trent and wife Terry, all of Salem and several nieces and nephews.

Sandee, as known to her friends, was a well known in the community as a avid quilter and co-owned a fabric store in West Union in the 1970s with her sister, Connie and was active in the Trillium Arts Guild. She was a 1961 graduate of Doddridge County High School and attended Salem College and Ohio University. She received her Ph.D from West Virginia University. She taught mathematics at Victory High School and math and computer science at Salem College for many years. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.



Family and friends will be received in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union on Monday, August 17, 2009 from 2-8PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
