Robert “Bob” Wagner Obituary

Robert “Bob” Ashley Wagner, 95, of West Union, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026 in Bridgeport.  He was born on July 1, 1930 in Pennsboro, WV, a son of the late Roy Ashley Wagner and Vonda G. Ash Wagner.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Mabel Knight Wagner, whom he married on October 9, 1950.

He is also survived by four children, Kathryn Jackson and husband Jeff of Bridgeport, Susan Ross and husband Gary of Clarksburg, Robert Alan Wagner and wife Debi of Ellenboro and Rebecca Jane Nelson and husband Jeff of Bristol; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Robert was a 1949 graduate of Doddridge County High School, where he proudly played the trumpet in the school band and enjoyed being part of school activities and friendships that lasted a lifetime. He dedicated 36 years of service to C & P Telephone Company as an installer and repairman, beginning his career there in 1954 while his father was still employed with the company. Robert was known as a dependable and hardworking employee who took pride in doing every job right.

Robert had a lifelong passion for cars, racing, restoring automobiles, and attending car shows. Whether polishing chrome, fine-tuning an engine, or admiring a classic car, he found great joy in the hobby he loved so much. Known throughout Doddridge County for having the cleanest car around, he took pride in every detail and was admired for the care and craftsmanship he put into everything he owned. A perfectionist by nature, Robert was also known for his compassion, generosity, integrity, and gentle spirit.

He was deeply devoted to his community and generously gave of his time and talents throughout his life. Robert was a member of the Lions Club, a charter member of the Doddridge County EMS, served on the park board, and was president of the Senior Citizens organization. He was also a faithful member of West Union Christian Church, where his quiet faith and caring heart touched many lives.

Robert will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart, willingness to help others, and the many friendships he built over the years. His legacy of service, kindness, and dedication to family and community will long be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
