Robert Lee Moore, 82 of Smithburg passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 in his residence. He was born on December 20, 1935 in Smithburg a son of the late Harley Z. and Thelma A. Davis Moore. On June 17, 1962 he married Martha Murray Moore who survives.
Also surviving are two brothers, Marlin Moore and wife Gloria, Dayton, TX, Darrell Moore and wife Helen, West Union, seven sisters, Eileen Spurgeon and husband Bob, Hurricane, Orma Yeater, West Union, Cathie Moore, Vienna, Carolyn Cumpston and husband Guy, Parkersburg, Marilyn Wright and husband Jack, Mineral Wells, Beth Wright and husband Larry, Williamstown, Ruby Carpenter and husband Richard, Parkersburg and several nieces and nephews. One daughter, Kim Moore and one sister, Isabelle Fox precede him in death.
Bob was a graduate of Doddridge County High School and the West Virginia Business College. Even though he was crippled most of his life he never let his handicap hinder him and never complained. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service serving as Post Master at Smithburg for 30 years. Before that he worked as his father's leave replacement at the post office for 8 years. Bob also worked in the family business Moore's Superette.
Bob was a very devout Christian. He was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church where he was song leader until it closed and then attended Faith Baptist in West Union. Bob loved to sing and led singing in many churches in the area during revivals.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Messenger presiding. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, Crystal Lake. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Moore family.
