Robert Junior Britton

Robert Junior Britton, 86, a resident of Cedar Grove Personal Care at Parkersburg, formerly of Holbrook departed this life on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. He was born May 31, 1926 in Holbrook, Ritchie County a son of the late Robert E. and Mary J. Sweeney-Britton. On June 24, 1949 he married Laurel Nutter who preceded him in death on May 27, 2011.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Jennings and husband David, Pennsboro, Danita Hiley and husband Roger, two grandchildren, Alicia Heffern and husband Seth, Allegany, NY, Matthew Jennings, Middlebourne and one great granddaughter, Gabriella Heffern. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William (Bill), QR (Joe) and two sisters, Grace Snider and Edith Britton.

Mr. Britton had retired from United States Postal Service as a rural carrier. He graduated from Pullman High School in 1944, and was a World War II United States Navy veteran, serving on the USS Charles Lawrence. He enjoyed history and story-telling and particularly enjoyed visiting with friends and unexpected guests. He attended the Harmony United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 1:00 pm with Reverend William Jemison presiding. Interment will follow in the South Fork Eastern Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the combined Doddridge County Veterans organizations. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 4-8PM and after 11AM on Sunday until time of service.
