REV Richard L. Campbell, SFC, USA , RET., 65, went home to be with his LORD on Thanksgiving Day, 2016. He was born at Smithburg on December 7, 1950 a son of the late Thelbert Ray and Laura Jane Harper Campbell. On March 8, 1970 he married Donna Swisher Campbell who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Kristine and husband COL James Bowers, his son, Richard 'Sam" Campbell and wife Chantel. He first retired from the US Army with twenty years service after serving in the Vietnam war, Korea, Germany, Hawaii and various US postings. He later retired from his second career as a VA counselor where he used his military experience and religious education to help other Veterans who were experiencing difficulties related to their military service. Additionally, he pastored various churches where he continued with his Ministry. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. The family will celebrate his life with a private service, as was his request, and scatter his ashes at a favorite prayer location near his home where he may again be one with nature. Cards of condolences may be sent to his wife Donna. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Campbell family.
