Pauline Maxwell Hall, 91 joined her loved ones in heaven on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at her home in West Union. She was born in the family log home on Roberts Fork, Doddridge County on June 1, 1928 the second child of the late Brooks and Charlotte Cole Gum. She was preceded in death by her first husband Rolla Maxwell in 1973 and in 1984 married Donald Hall who preceded her in death December 26, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her beloved children, David Brooks Maxwell, Judy Gaskins Costilow, Donald "DonDon" Hall and Betty Hall McCoy. Also preceding her in death were two brothers Brooks Jay Gum and John Gum.
Pauline is survived by two sisters, Eleanor "Eckie" Nicholson of Coldwater and Mary Jane Staats of Weirton, brother Joseph Gum of Meathouse Fork and sister-in-law Mary Ann Gum of Roberts Fork. She is also survived by two step-children, Linda and Ed McClure of Buckhannon and Ronnie and Teresa Hall of Weston, five grandchildren, Angela Webb, Melissa Helmick, Samantha Matheny, John Snyder Jr. and Sarah Elizabeth Hall, several great grandchildren. Aunt Polly was a loving aunt to Amanda and Trevor Gum, Genie and Bob Hardman, Troy and Tonya Gum, Joe Gum, Jane Nicholson, Michael and Janet Nicholson, Mitchell and Mindy Nicholson, Ed and Betty Staats, Janet and Bob Buchman and Donna and J.B. Heflin. She was blessed with tender loving care by Brenda Shaver, June Reed and Alice Davis.
Pauline was a 1946 graduate of Doddridge County High School. After graduating from WV Business College in Clarksburg, she worked as a secretary at the D.C. High School for four years before joining the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office where she retired with 37 years of service.
Pauline was the oldest living member of the Avon Church and most recently attended West Union Christian Church. She worked for the betterment of the community and county. She was a charter member of the DC Emergency Squad and was an EMT for 17 years. Pauline was a board member of the DC Medical Center. She was active in community organizations including the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3804, Business and Professionals Women, Lions C, Night Owls CEOs where she enjoyed being a member of the Night Owls Clowns performers. She worked to gain support for the upkeep of the Blockhouse I.O.O.F. Historical Cemetery. She and Don loved flowers and for several years planted and maintained the flowers at the circle on Rt. 18 and old Rt. 50. She was a loving and kind person and throughout her life truly enjoyed her family and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 56 Front St. West Union on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 10:00AM with Pastor Joe Schneider presiding. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Blockhouse Hill, West Union. The family will receive visitors in the funeral home chapel on Friday, July 19, 2019 from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Doddridge County Lions Club C/O Linda Bonnell, 91 Blockhouse Dr. West Union, WV 26456.
