Onel Swentzel Obituary

Onel Earl Swentzel, 81, of West Union (Morgans Run community) departed this life on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at his residence. He was born April 13, 1929 on Morgans Run the third child of the late Earl O. and Nettie Smith Swentzel.

As a teenager, Mr. Swentzel joined the Morgans Run United Brethren Church and attended schools at Center Point, Morgans Run, Smithburg and Doddridge County High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1952. He was a Korean Conflict veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart. When he retuned home and could not find work, he moved to Cincinnati, OH. Onel retired as a foreman with 35 years of service from National Distillers Products Company, Cincinnati, OH.

Mr. Swentzel is survived by one brother, A.A.Buss Swentzel and one sister, Nina Stubbs, both of West Union, (Morgans Run community) nieces and nephews, Fred (Darlene) Swentzel, Neil (Saren) Swentzel, Diane Boyd, Peggy (Rick) Smith, Marvin Swentzel, Linda (John) Strickling, Beth (Arden) Ashcraft, Ella (Roger) Underwood, Ronald Stubbs and great nieces and nephews, Clay Swentzel, Rachel Swentzel, Angela (JR) Anthos, Jason (April) Swentzel, Adam (Dareth) Swentzel, Andrea (Jake) Deem, Allison Boyd, Kelly Boyd, Jessica (Randy) Sheets, Melissa Smith, Erica Smith, Paige Swentzel, Johnathan Swentzel, Jim (Beverly) Ashcraft, Valerie (Jerry) Rowe, Derek Underwood and several great great nieces and nephews. One infant brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Haymond Plaugher presiding. Interment will follow in the Center Point Christian Church Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the combined Doddridge County Veterans Organizations. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 6-8PM and after 9AM until time of service on Friday.
