Nina Swentzel Stubbs, 85, of the Meadows at Maplewood, Bridgeport formerly of Morgans Run Community departed this life on Thursday, December 6, 2012 in the United Hospital Center following a brief illness. She was born June 30, 1927 a daughter of the late Earl O. and Nettie Smith (Schmidt) Swentzel. Nina and Frank were united in marriage September 1946. They were married and lived faithfully to each other in the Morgans Run Community for 51 years until Franks death on December 30, 1997.
She is survived by one son, Ronald Stubbs, Morgans Run, three daughters, Linda Strickling and husband John, West Union, Beth Ashcraft and husband Arden, West Union and Ella Underwood and husband Roger, Salem, three grandchildren, Derek Underwood and wife Katie, Jim Ashcraft and wife Beverly, Valerie Rowe and husband Jerry, and three great grand children, Bridget Ashcraft, Jeremiah Ashcraft and John Mark Ashcraft. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Stubbs, three brothers, Golden Norris Swentzel, Onel. E. Swentzel and Alvin Buss Swentzel. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Nina was a member of the Morgans Run UB Church, joining in 1946. She was active in youth work and bible schools. She was a member of the retired School Personnel, employed as a cook at Smithburg Grade School for approximately 20 years. She was a life member of the Doddridge County Historical Society, Farm Bureau, Senior Citizens, AARP, Board member of Doddridge County DEO and a homemaker. She attended Center Point and Morgans Run Grade Schools and Doddridge County High School, graduating in 1946.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union at 2PM on Sunday, December 9, 2012 with Pastor Randy Plaugher presiding. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, West Union. Family will receive friends on Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 2-8PM and after 11AM on Sunday until time of service in the funeral home chapel.
