Mary Deets Obituary

Mary Ellene McKinney Deets went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, December 28, 2009 at the age of 88. She passed away peacefully at Salem Care and Rehab. where she had made her home since August 31, 2009.

Mary Ellene was born in West Union, West Virginia on April 23, 1921 to the late Lennie Dewey McKinney, Sr. and Leva Maebelle Baker McKinney.

On October 10, 1942 she married the love of her life, Albert H. Deets. They resided together in Grafton until his death on September 3, 1970.

She is survived by her cousins and caregivers, Donnie and Pam Sponaugle, who loved her dearly. Also, a faithful and loving niece and nephew, Twila and Tom Radcliff who called her daily at her home on Sunnyside. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Charlotte McKinney, whom she thought of as a sister and special Aunt, Jennie Mae Sponaugle.

Mary Ellene was a member of the Red Oak Church on Rock Run. During her adult life she spent many hours going door to door inviting people to church, visiting the sick and doing for others. She spent years caring for her mother and then her sister, Bernadine Holley, until their deaths.

Preceding her death are two brothers, Lennie McKinney II, Chalmer McKinney and a sister Vera Lee McKinney Oster. Mary Ellene was the last surviving member of her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front. St., West Union at 11:00AM with Pastor Lester Stinebiser officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodsdale Memorial Park, Grafton. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 4-8PM and after 9AM on Wednesday until time of service.
