Martha Grace Evans, 48, of the Black Lick community passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 28, 1964 a daughter to Lois Carpenter Murphy, West Union and the late Clem L. Murphy, Jr.
During her life, she mothered two children: Clayton Evans, who is 18 and a freshman at Marietta College and Sarah Evans, who is 15, and a sophomore at Doddridge County High School. Though Martha's main career was taking care of her children, she could also be occasionally found in the Doddridge County School system, working as a substitute teacher's aide. She was a devoted member of the Red Oak Grove Church. This was her life until April, 2012 when she was diagnosed with esophagus cancer after going to the doctor for what seemed to be trivial stomach pains. Martha's friends and family were disheartened, but her faith and willingness to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ was an inspiration to all who she touched. As her physical condition worsened, her spiritual condition of faith enhanced. Even in her final days, Martha continued to preach the word to anyone who was in the vicinity of her vocal range. Martha was hospitalized in September for complications brought on by the chemotherapy. Martha touched the life of anyone who came in contact with her for the better, spreading the joy of the Holy Spirit with those who were not experiencing it. Martha leaves behind her two children and mother, however, the only truly bad part is, because of where she is now, she will never be able to share the joy of Christianity to people who do not already know.
Also surviving are Craig Evans, former Husband and close friend, one sister, Robin Travis and husband Smokey, New Milton, two brothers, David Murphy and wife Pauline, Nutter Fork, Mark Murphy, Smithburg and several nieces and nephews. One sister, Janet Lee Murphy preceded her in death.
