Loris Underwood Obituary

Loris Gene Morgan Underwood, 96, of Underwood Lane, West Union departed this life on January 27, 2017at Meadowview Manor after an extended illness. She was born January 22, 1921 at Center Point, a daughter of the late Coleman J. and Arta Cottrill Morgan. Surviving are one daughter, Cecelia Cheryl U. Reid and husband William R. Reid Jr., Clarksburg; grandson, William R. Reid III and wife, Roberta, West Union; granddaughter, Roxanne M. Theilacker and husband William, Shoreview, MN; great grandchildren, William Keith and Shaylin Morgan Reid, Frankie Morgan and Isaac Reid Theilacker; half sister, Carrie Parker and husband Bobby, Wooster, OH; sister-in-law, Mary Jane (Betsy) Underwood, Paynesville, OH; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shirl Dick Underwood in 2004 and an infant brother.

Mrs. Underwood was a graduate of Doddridge County High School, Class of 1937 and Fairmont Business College. After a career of more than 30 years as a legal secretary, she retired from Breeden, Howard and McMillan Law Firm, Norfolk, VA. She was also secretary and bookkeeper for Hair and Underwood Construction Company. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, VA and attended Center Point Christian Church since 1979. She was one of the founding trustees of the Center Point Cemetery Association serving for many years as secretary and treasurer. Loris enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, sewing and was an avid reader. She was a loving mother and Granny and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 1:00PM with Pastor Chad Ash presiding. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, Crystal Lake. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 4-8 PM and after 9AM on Friday until the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Assoc., the Center Point Cemetery Assoc., or a favorite charity. Spurgeon Funeral home is privileged to serve the Underwood family.
