Lettie Maxwell Obituary

Leota Maxwell, 93, of West Union, WV, went to be with the lord on Sunday, September 12, 2010, at her daughter's residence of Center Point, WV. Leota was the daughter of the late Elbridge "Skeet" and Belva Dilly. In 1937, she married Clifford Daugherty who preceded her in death. In 1966, she married Forest Maxwell who preceded her in death in 1985.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Scott; one step-son, Roger Maxwell; two brothers, Frank Dilly and Marden Paul "Jim" Dilly; one sister, Helen Dilly.

Surviving is one daughter, Judy Ann and husband Howard McDaniel of Morgantown, WV; son-in-law James Bert Scott, and step-daughter-in-law Verna Maxwell of Ohio. Several nieces and nephews, eight grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving Leota are her loving sisters, Maxine Dilly Ford, Belva Louise Dilly Noland, and Juanita Dilly Campbell.

Leota worked for Rolland Glass Co. for 16-1/2 years until her retirement in 1967. Then she went to work for the West Union Senior Citizens Center. Along with her many years of volunteering at the center, Leota received several awards for being an outstanding citizen and volunteer to her community in West Union, WV.

Leota was a Baptist by faith where she attended the West Union Baptist Church until her illness in 2004. Leota enjoyed many things in life, but most of all she enjoyed baking, crocheting, volunteering, and enjoying time with her family. Leota was an excellent mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend to many. Leota instilled many of her excellent values onto her children, grandchildren, and friends. She will be sadly missed by everyone who had the great opportunity to know and love her.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, Crystal Lake. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care, P.O. Box 760 Aurthurdale, WV 26520.
