Kermit Lynn "Smokie" Ross, 69 of Porto Rico Rd. New Milton departed this life on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in the River Oaks Nursing Home, Clarksburg. He was born on January 17, 1948 in Doddridge County a son of the late Earl and Zelma Leasure Ross. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Weekley Ross.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ross, New Milton, Michelle Powers and husband Chris, Parkersburg, two sons, Kermit "Fred" Ross and companion Rebecca Snider, New Milton, James Ross, West Union, grandchildren, Jamie, Kiley and Ashlyn Ross, Salem, Lena Ross, West Union, two step granddaughters, Teresa Setola, Hillebrand, NC, Sara Burnside and husband Billy, Salem, one step grandson, Kevin Setola and wife Lindsey, Clarksburg, step great grandchildren, Heidi and Sofia Burnside, Salem, three sisters, Jean Lowther and husband Stanley, Parkersburg, Linda Hart and husband Herman, New Milton, Mary Camp and husband Lowell, Parkersburg, two brothers, Earl Ross and wife Mary, Waverly, George Ross and wife Sue, New Milton, special nephew, John Ross, special niece, Linda Ross, special great nephew, Ryan Ross. Two sisters preceded him in death, Emma Ruth Ross and Barbara Sue Stemple.

Mr. Ross had worked in the Oil & Gas Industry as a driller and had worked for Carl Smith as a pipeliner. He was a member of Local 984. Smokie was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing and farming, he was Methodist.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 11:00AM with Pastor Bill Davis presiding.
Interment will follow in the 7th Day Baptist Cemetery, MIddle Island. The famiy will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, June 8, 2107 from 4-8PM. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Ross family.
