Robert L. Dutch Holland Jr., Judge of the 3rd Judicial Circuit of West Virginia, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after a sudden illness. He was born on April 13, 1953 and was a lifelong resident of Doddridge County. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Holland Sr. and his mother, Mary Lou (Henderson) Holland.
He is survived by his wife Kimberlee (Norris) Holland, Greenwood, his son Robert L. Trey Holland III, Morgantown, and his daughter, Hunter Shea Holland, at home. He is also survived by two sisters, Jane H. Hardin, Westfield, NJ., Elizabeth Ann (Holland) Beveridge, Lexington, KY. and one nephew, Kirk Sutton, West Union.
He was a graduate of Episcopal High School, Alexandria, VA, a 1975 graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in Political Science and a 1981 graduate of the West Virginia College of Law. Mr. Holland practiced law in Doddridge County from 1981 until his appointment to the Third Judicial Circuit in 1997. He was a former President of West Union Bank, past member and Vice-chairman of the Doddridge Republican Executive Committee, a member and board member of the West Union Volunteer Fire Department and member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, West Union. Mr. Holland, together with his father, Robert and son, Trey was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity (West Virginia Alpha). He was involved in youth athletics, having formed the Doddridge County youth soccer league and was an avid supporter of West Virginia University sports as well as all Doddridge County sporting events. His Bulldog Bark will be missed at Doddridge sporting events. He enjoyed hunting and working on his farm. A loving father, dedicated husband and a respected member of the judiciary, Mr. Hollands legacy of compassion and service will be an ongoing inspiration to all those touched by his life.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, West Union. Mr. Holland will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, West Union. The family will receive friends in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union on Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 1-8PM.
