Joseph L. Towner

Joseph Leroy Towner, 74, of Smithburg, W.Va. departed this life on Sunday, November 2, 2014 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born at Central Station, Doddridge County, W.Va. on June 11, 1940, a son of the late Glen and Vallie Flesher Towner. On December 25, 1998 his wife, Beatrice "Beechie" McKinney Towner, preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons; Greg Towner and wife, Valerie, of Elkins, W.Va. and Jeff Towner and wife, Angela, of Leon, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Derek , Dana, Elias and Maddelynn Towner; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy Ed Towner and wife, Shirley, of Greenwood, W.Va. and Wayne Towner and wife, Sharon, of Parkersburg, W.Va.; his companion, Sharon Sponaugle; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, one sister, Isabelle Hoagland, preceded him in death.

Mr. Towner retired from CSX Railroad as a signalman. He enjoyed coon hunting and farming. Leroy attended the Rock Run Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front Street, West Union, W.Va. on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 1:00PM with Pastor Tom Zimmerman presiding. Interment will follow in the Duckworth Cemetery, Greenwood, W.Va. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 2-8PM and after 9AM until time of services on Thursday.
