John Robert Friend

John Robert Friend, 68 of Smithton Rd. West Union, departed this life on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at his residence. He was born on July 7, 1947 in West Union a son of the late Kenneth H. and Leona Bonnell Friend. On March 30, 1971 he married Kathy Etzinger Friend who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Lisa Beachy and husband Rick, Bucyrus, OH, one son, John R. Friend II, OH, two grandsons, Collin & Colton Beachy, one granddaughter, Kendra Robinson and husband Jason, Columbus, OH, one great grandson, Jaxon Robinson, one brother, Roger Friend and wife Lora, West Union, several nieces and nephews. One sister Kay Davis preceded him in death.

Mr. Friend was retired from General Electric Corporation with over 30 years service as a mount machinist. He was U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany during the Viet Nam Era. John was protestant by faith.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 1:00PM with Pastor Chad Ash presiding. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, West Union. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel after 11AM on Thursday until time of service. Full military graveside rites will be accorded by the Combined Doddridge County Veterans Organization. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Friend family.
