James “Jim” Arthur Bland, 81, of Blandville, WV departed this life on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born December 31, 1942 in West Union, WV, a son of the late George E. Bland Sr. and Gladys Ice Bland of Blandville, WV. He was a graduate of Doddridge County High School, where he met and married Jackie (Angela J. Jett) during his senior year of high school on August 20, 1960.
In 1965, Jim and Jackie moved to Alexandria, Virginia. Jim joined the Alexandria Police Department where he worked for 20 years. During that time Jim continued his education and graduated from American University with a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice and Corrections.
Jim retired from the police department after 20 years of service and then worked as a Fraud Investigator for Wells Fargo Bank, retiring from there in 2007. That year, Jim and Jackie moved back to West Virginia to spend their retirement years on the farm and to be close to their family. Jim continued to pursue his passion for justice and law enforcement by serving on the Doddridge County Deputy Sheriff's Civil Service Commission as well as the Doddridge County Community Corrections Advisory Board.
Jim enjoyed golfing, “tinkering” with cars and taking care of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jim was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in West Union. He was also a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason of Henry Knox Field -John Blair Lodge No. 349 in Alexandria, VA.
Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jackie Bland (Angela J.). He is also survived by his only daughter, Jamie Marie Hass and husband Ron Hass of West Union, two grandsons, Ronald James Hass and wife Brittney Hass of West Union, Ryan William Hass and wife Allison Hass of Pikeville, NC and three great grandchildren, Hunter James, Harper Adele and Oaklynn Mae; his older sister, Norma Lee Kelley of West Union as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by one sister in infancy, Blanche Eleanor Bland; two brothers, George Edwin Bland Jr and Robert Charles Bland.
The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the staff of WVU Medicine Hospice for caring for Jim.
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home West Union, 212 Front Street West Union WV on Monday, November 4, 2024 from 4-7PM and on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 9:00AM until the time of the service at 11:00AM with Rev.
