James Reed Obituary

James "Jim" Reed, 80 of Sunfish Dr. West Union (Crystal Lake Community) departed this life on Saturday, June 27, 2015 in his residence. He was born on May 8, 1935 in
West Union a son of the late Mary E. Jenkins. On January 22, 1965 he married Patricia Verhey Reed who survives.

Also surviving is one daughter, Maryjo Bagdon and husband Joseph, Hampton, VA, one son Joel L. Reed, West Union, one grandson, Quinn Reed, one brother, William "Bill" Jenkins, West Union, two sisters, Virginia Jackson, Parkersburg, Patricia Brand and husband Bill, Spelter. Four brothers, Jack Reed, Lewis Jenkins, Robert Ankrom and Roy Jenkins preceded him in death.

Mr. Reed retired from the U. S. Navy in 1972 after 20 years of service. Jim was a member of Post #2408 VFW West Union. He served as West Union's policeman for six years and was a deputy sheriff. He retired from the W.V. Department of Highway. He was instrumental in starting Doddridge County T-Ball as well as Doddridge County Little League. Jim was a basketball coach for grades school 7th & 8th grades and won the division in 1986. He served as President of the Doddridge County Band Boosters for many years, during that time he was instrumental in a community fund raising event to enable the band to travel to Walt Disney World two times. Jim played slow pitch softball in West Union, Virginia, California and Hawaii. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, however sports was his passion, "If it moved he was there".

At the request of Mr. Reed he will be cremated. Private military graveside rites will be conducted in the W. V. National Cemetery, Pruntytown at the convenience of the family. The family request that donations be made to your favorite charity or People's Hospice, 327 Medical Park Dr. Bridgeport, WV 26330 in Jim's memory.
