James "Wetzel" Carroll, 78 of Parkersburg departed this life on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Doddridge County on January 19, 1938 a son of the late Ora and Sarah Lasure Carroll. On June 22, 1967 he married Esther Pitts Carroll who survives.
Also surviving are four sisters, Virginia Marguerite Williams, Smithburg, Cherokee Sue Fraser, Juanita Krafft and husband Arnold, Delores Thompson and husband Jennings, all of West Union, mother-in-law, Genevieve Pitts, West Union, brother-in-law, David Pitts, West Union, sister-in-law, Helen Cain, West Union, numerous nieces and nephews. Five brothers, John, Leroy, Robert, Eugene and Edwin Carroll, one sister, Mary Adeline Wagner, father-in-law, Pearly Ray Pitts preceded him in death.
Mr. Carroll had worked for Viscose Plant, Parkersburg and retired from the Production Department of Marietta Elkem Metals. He was U.S. Army Veteran and enjoyed gospel music and westerns.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 11:00AM with Pastor Rick Murphy presiding. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park with full military graveside rites being accorded by the Combined Doddridge County Veterans Organizations. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 4-7PM. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Carroll family.
