Henry Hardgrove, Obituary

Henry E. Hardgrove, Jr. 78, of Monroe, Louisiana departed this life on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 after an ongoing illness. He was born on February 23, 1932 in New Castle, IN a son of the late Henry E. Hardgrove, Sr. and Grace Means Hardgrove.


He is survived by his former wife and mother of his children Christine (Hardgrove) Weekley of Elk Lick, one daughter, Myra (Hardgrove) Mulvay and husband Harlond of Deep Valley, one son, Dr. Mark Hardgrove and wife Sun of Conyers, GA.; four granddaughters, Candance Hardgrove, Annie Pratt, April Parsons, and Chasity Ash; three grandsons, Destin Hardgrove, Timmy Hardgrove, and J. R. Mulvay and seven great grandchildren; Megan and Eric Caine, Dillon and Zetta Ash, Emily Pratt and Austin and Whitney Parsons, one sister, Beverly Thurston and husband Darrell and one brother, Jerry Hardgrove and wife Doris of IN.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jackie Lee Hardgrove, and two granddaughters, Melanie and Tina Mulvay.

He was a retired United States Air Force veteran, retiring with 20 years of service and often served along side his former wife Christine, who was also a U.S.A.F. veteran. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal as he was cited for his performance as a security police supervisor at Da Nang Air Base, Vietnam while engaged in military operations against Viet Cong forces. He was proud to wear the Air Force uniform and was proud to serve his country and he served it well!

Funeral services will be held in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 1:00 PM with Dr. Mark Hardgrove presiding. Interment will follow in the Christian Church Cemetery, Center Point. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 10AM until time of service.
