Harold Pratt Obituary

Harold Eugene Pratt, 82, of Slidell, LA and Salem, WV departed this life on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. He was born on July 30, 1936 in Salem the son of the late Clarence and Pauline Pratt. On November 8, 1958, he married the love of his life, Lois Merchant Pratt, who preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Randolph. Surviving are his brother Dorsey Pratt, and sisters Belinda Rene Fruit and Brianna Spencer, his four children/spouses Paul and Verna Pratt, Debra and Dan Huffman, Carl and Melanie Pratt, Elizabeth and Thomas Young as well as 9 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Harold loved people and never met a stranger. An Army veteran, he served his country in the late 1950s to include peacekeeping duties in Korea. Versatile in his experiences, he worked as a tax auditor in Arizona, and a plumber, glass factory worker, and welder in West Virginia. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking during his retirement. Dedicated to his Christian faith, he was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in West Union where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He often volunteered his time to help others, whether serving on the Harrison County EMS, passing out food for those in need, or serving in his church. In his final year, he was active in the Kairos Prison Ministry in Louisiana where he shared his faith with those incarcerated.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Church St. West Union on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David McCauley presiding. Mr. Pratt will lie in state one hour prior to his service. Interment will follow in the K of P Memorial Park, Salem. The family will receive friends in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 56 Front St. West Union on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Judes Childrens Hospital in memory of Harold. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Pratt family.
