Gerald E. (Duke) Travis 93 of the Crystal Lake community departed his earthly life on February 11, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born in West Union, WV on September 25, 1931 the son of the late Claude & Mona Travis. On March 23, 1951 he married Wilda (Pat) Jenkins, the love of his life.
Also surviving are his three sons and their wives: Mike and Barb Travis (Crystal Lake), Smokey and Robin Travis (Blandville) and Mark and Tammy Travis (Big Flint); Grandchildren, Ashley (Adam) Skeens, Zack (Connie) Travis, Kesslee (Travis) Davis, Gunnar Travis (friend Ivy), Lindsey Travis (friend Kyle), Jessica Travis (friend Kelvin); Step granddaughter, Michaele "Shae" Greathouse; Great-grandchildren, Kordale Travis, Parker Skeens, Preslie Davis, Lydia Skeens, and Little Duke Davis; Step great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Kaden Anderson; Two step great-great-grandchild, Paislee and Westin Booher; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Pat, he is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Mona Travis; one brother, Burl Travis; one sister, Betty Senile.
Duke graduated from Doddridge County High School class of 1950. He was involved in the Oil and Gas Industry during the 1950's and 60's with his father Claude and brother Burl. He owned and operated Duke's Bar and Ashland Station from 1953 until closing in 1991. He retired from his carryout Store in 1997.
He enjoyed camping, boating at Sutton Lake, hunting, fishing, working on demolition derby cars, Dirt Track races at Tyler County Speedway where he was member of the Bullring Booster Club, riding his side by side around the county and setting around the camp fires in the evenings at Crystal Lake with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching classic westerns, there wasn't one he hadn't seen at least a dozen times and he could tell family members what was going to happen prior to it airing on the tv.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Paul Davis, Dr. Andrea Huffman and Staff, UHC Oncology department, Home Health, Hospice and Mark and Tammy for their excellent care at their home prior to his death.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Davis Funeral Home, 212 Front Street, West Union, WV with Evangelist Bill Mumbauer presiding on Saturday March 1st at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Per his request he will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
