Gerald H. Shuman, 72, of Snow Bird Rd., West Union departed this life on Sunday, November 30, 2014 in the Crestview Manor, Jane Lew. He was born June 10, 1942 in Bedford, OH a son of the late Arland Gerald and Constance Webb Shuman. On May 28, 1991 he married Betsy Streely Shuman who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Catherine Burkey and husband Robert, Deerfield, OH, one son, Arland Shuman, Ravenna, OH, one step daughter, Susan Mullany, Missouri, one step son, Jim Burkey and wife Dot, Atwater, OH, two sisters, Vivian Gabor, Bedford, OH, Judith Shuman, Chardon, OH, one brother, Warren Shuman, Deerfield, OH, five grandchildren that he enjoyed spending time with, Kendra Burkey, Jared Burkey, Amanda Mullany, Joe Mullany, Hannah Mullany and his beloved Wilson, his furry K-9 companion. One sister, Winona Bonk preceded him in death.
Gerald was a graduate of Doddridge County High School and had been a truck driver and operated a pilot car service. He was a United States Army Veteran and was a member of the Crimson River Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and loved volunteering at the Fathers Hand in West Union.
A Memorial Service will be conducted in the Crimson River Baptist Church, West Union on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 11AM with Pastor Denver Burnside presiding. There will be a time of gathering one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Fathers Hand 209 Columbia St, West Union, WV 26456 or Crimson River Baptist Church, 1622 Doe Run Rd., West Union, WV 26456.
