George Sponaugle Obituary

George Clinton Sponaugle, 83 of Sugar Camp Run Rd. New Milton departed this life on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 19, 1936 in Doddridge County a son of the late Wilmer W. and Nellie Bowers Sponaugle. On July 21, 1957 he married Carrie Kelley Sponaugle who preceded him in death.



Surviving are one daughter, Pamela Childers, Richwood, IN, five sons, Daniel Sponaugle, Fairmont, Jeffrey Sponaugle, Stedman, NC, Devin Sponaugle, Baumholder, Germany, Joe Sponaugle, Clarksburg, Zachary Sponaugle, at home, 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, two sisters, Wilva Lafferty, Land of Lakes, FL, Gladys Roth, Woodbridge, VA, three brothers, Clyde Sponaugle, Palestine, Alfred Gurney, NC, Donald Gurney, Baltimore, MD and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Towner, one grandson, Alan Childers, half brother, Richard Sponauglej, half sister, Joyce Schreiner.



Mr. Sponaugle was a 1954 graduate of Doddridge County High School. He was retired from the Bell Atlantic Telephone Company as a technician. George was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving for four years. He was a member of the Telephone Company Pioneer's of America a charter of the Doddridge County Emergency Squad and Blandville United Methodist Church.



Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 56 Front St. West Union on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Davis presiding. Interment will follow in the Middle Island 7th Day Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday after 11 a.m. until time of service. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Sponaugle family.
