Frank Norman Sunderland, 84, of Court St., West Union departed this life on July 3, 2017 in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center, Clarksburg.
He was born on July 19, 1932 at FT. Collins, CO, a son of the late John and Sadie Doke Sunderland.
Surviving is his former wife and best friend, Mary Katherine Sunderland, West Union; two step-daughters, Karen Trent Zeid and husband Jim, Mesa, AZ and Beth Hendricks and husband Joe, Salem OR; two step-sons, Terry Lee Trent and wife Carmen, Siler City, NC and Grant Trent and wife Jo Ellen West Union; and several step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
One step daughter, Kathy Higgins; one step granddaughter, Carmella; and one sister, Joanna Jesser preceded him in death.
Mr. Sunderland was a graduate of Colorado State University with a Masters degree in Computer Science. He retired from Honeywell Int. as a computer engineer. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict where he was wounded in battle causing partial blindness and hearing impairment. Norm enjoyed traveling, history and animals. He was Lutheran.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 3PM with Pastor Lindy Muhly presiding. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park with full military graveside rites being accorded by the Combined Doddridge County Veterans Organizations. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Friday, July 7, 2017 after 1:00PM until time of services. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Sunderland family.
