Eric Gessler Obituary

Eric Samuel Gessler, 56 years old, of Big Flint community in Doddridge County , WV passed away on November 9, 2009 at his home with loved ones following a valiant battle with cancer.

He is the son of Paul E. Gessler who preceded him in death and Sophie Gessler of Clarksburg, WV.

Surviving is his wife, Shirley L. Gessler; one son, Michael Paul Gessler, USAF Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, AK, two daughters, Michelle Atwood of Philadelphia, PA, and Angela Atwood of Clarksburg, WV, one brother Paul Gessler and Diana of Melbourne, FL, one sister, Loretta Kissella of Lumberport, WV and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. One sister, Anna Bohanon preceded him in death.

Eric graduated from Doddridge County High School in 1971 where he played football, basketball, and track. He was recruited to Marshall University for the 1971 Young Thundering Herd Team. He played football there for 4 years and graduated with a degree in Marketing. Eric was recruited to play for the Cleveland Browns. He then attended Calhoun Engineering School in Baltimore, MD. Upon graduation, he joined the Merchant Marines. He was later employed at Constellation Energy as a plant operator for over 25 years.

Eric enjoyed long walks on the farm with his wife and dog, Elvis. He loved to laugh and joke with family and friends. He was a very kind and loving man and will forever be remembered for his kindness and generosity to others.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2009 in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union at 1PM with Allen Meadows and Roger Hillis presiding.
Family and friends will be received in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, November 12, 2009 from 2-8PM and after 9AM on Friday until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peoples Hospice, PO Box 1680, Clarksburg, WV 26301
