Emma Jo Dotson

Emma Jo Dotson, 77, of Church St. West Union departed this life on June 30, 2017.

She was born on April 14, 1940 in Kentucky, a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Emma T. Adkins Eastes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur "Art" Dotson on January 22, 2015.

Surviving children: daughter, Beth Hoskinson and husband, Shell, of Clarksburg; son, Tom and wife, Sandi, of Winter Haven, FL. Emma Jo was blessed by 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Her siblings: Tom and wife, Anita Eastes of Huntington and Marilynn Johnson of Madison.

Emma Jo had a lifelong love of education and reading demonstrated by her teaching career spanning nearly 50 years. She began touching lives at Lowell Elementary and Ashland College in Lorain, OH. Then upon retiring she continued at Salem-Teikyo and Doddridge County Elementary in West Virginia. She was active in many groups in her Ohio years and most recently Cornerstone CEOS, BPW and Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Doddridge Co. Emma Jo enjoyed entertaining in her home, especially in December when it was filled with Christmas villages, Christmas trees and holiday love.

Funeral services will be conducted at Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union on July 3, 2017 at 7:00 PM with Pastor David McCauley officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 3 PM until time of services. Interment will be on Wednesday July 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Masonic Memorial Park, West Union.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Doddridge County Library. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Dotson family.
