Eldra Cumpston Obituary

Eldra Rae Cumpston, 81, of Canton, Ohio departed this life on Wednesday December 4, 2013 in Altercare of Navarre, Ohio. She was born March 10, 1932 in West Union, WV a daughter of the late Herbert and Hazel (Ash) Carroll.


Eldra was a 1952 graduate of Doddridge County High School and was a Canton area resident since 1955. She was a member of North Industry Christian Church, Canton Township Fire Department Auxiliary, AARP and a life member of TOPS in North Industry. Eldra delivered Meals on Wheels and she was an avid walker, enjoyed cooking, camping, the outdoors and loved her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, James E. Cumpston to whom she was married 61 years; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and David Dick of Canton, one son, Denver Cumpston of Canton, former daughter-in-law, Leanne Cumpston of Canton, two grandchildren, Dannette (Paul) Fornash and Devan Cumpston, two great-grandsons, Simon and Miles Fornash, one sister, Louetta Bode, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobbie and Jean Carroll of Stow, OH, Gayle and Bernice Carroll of West Union, WV, Jack Carroll of East Liverpool, OH and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Cumpston, two sons, James and Kevin Cumpston, one grandson, Davey Dick, two sisters, Imogene Griffith and Norma Lee Ross and four brothers, Dennis, Ronald, Billy and Denver Carroll.



Funeral service will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 1PM with Pastor Tom Zimmerman presiding. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, West Union. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
