Edith White Obituary

Edith Virginia Smith White, 104 of Falls Church, VA formerly of West Union departed this life on Wednesday, February 6, 2019. She was born on June 23, 1914 in Doddridge County a daughter of the late H. Walter and Mary E. Freeman Smith. Her husband Arnold "Jack" White preceded her in death on November 18, 1978.



Surviving are her son-in-law, Herbert Wamsley, Arlington, VA, grandchildren, Evan David Wamsley (Rena), Arlington, VA, Erin Jane Wamsley (Matthew Tucker), Greensville, SC, great grandchildren, Rowan Elena Tucker, Jackson Aslan Wamsley, and Juliana Saray Wamsley, one sister, Martha Lee Williams and husband Leo, West Union. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann Wamsley, on April 29, 2017, and by two brothers and three sisters.



Mrs. White had retired from the Marion County Board of Education as a school teacher. She had resided in Fairmont WV and returned to Doddridge County after retirement to live near her family members, to whom she was exceptionally devoted. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.



Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front. St. West Union on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor David McCauley presiding. Interment will follow in the Freeman Cemetery, Rt. 18 N. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, February 16, 2019 after 11 a.m. until time of service. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the White family.
