Earl Edwin Hoskinson, 83 of Rt. 2 Salem (Big Flint Community) departed this life on Sunday, September 5, 2010 in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Center. He was born at Morgansville on March 20, 1927 a son of the late Roy and Goldie Faye Gain Hoskinson.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years Jo Anne Layman Hoskinson, one daughter, Laureen Kelley, Big Flint, one grandson, Rory Kelley, Big Flint, one granddaughter April Kelley, Morgantown, two brothers, Robert Hoskinson, McConnellsville, OH, Billy Hoskinson, Clarksburg, several nieces and nephews. Four brothers preceded him in death, Kenneth, Guyle, Lawrence and James Hoskinson.
Mr. Hoskinson retired from Hope Gas on May 23, 1987 as a Purchasing Agent. Earl was a graduate of Doddridge County High School and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Salem College. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Navy Sea Bees. Earl was a life member of the VFW Post 3408 West Union, West Union Lions Club where he had been Past President and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and was Lion of the Year in 1989 and 2003. He was a member of Clarksburg Moose. Earl was a volunteer 4-H Leader for 40 years and was named Leader of the Year and was a life member of the 4-H All Stars. He was also a member of the National Wood Carvers Association and had served on the Doddridge County Emergence Squad as an EMT. Earl was a life member of the Doddridge County Historical Society.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union at 1:00PM with Reverend Lester Stinebiser presiding. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, West Union. Full Military Graveside Honors will be accorded by the Combined Doddridge County Veterans Organizations. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, September 7th from 2-8PM and after 9AM on Wednesday until time of service.
