Donald Chumley Obituary

Donald Gene "Donnie" Chumley, 71 of Salem departed this life on Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the Emeritus at The Heritage of Bridgeport.

He was born on January 2, 1942 at Greenbrier, Doddridge County, a son of the late Kenneth & Ruth Childers Chumley. On June 4, 1966 he married Verna Carpenter Chumley who survives.

Also surviving is one daughter, Michelle Bockoven and husband William S. Louisville, KY, two sons, Patrick and Gary Chumley, Salem, two sisters, Sharon Ford and husband, Frank, Cyrena Oliver and husband Roger both of Salem, sister-in-law, Carolyn Chumley, Salem 2 nieces, 5 nephews and several great nieces and nephews. One brother, Edwin Chumley preceded him in death.

Mr. Chumley was retired from the State of West Virginia as a Rehabilitation Counselor with 21 years service. He attended the Romney School for the Blind from 1st through 9th grades and was a 1963 graduate of Doddridge County High School. Donnie was a 1967 graduate of Salem College with a BA degree in education and was a post graduate of Marshall University. He enjoyed caning chairs, woodworking and his beloved Chihuahuas. He was a loving husband and father and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front. St. West Union on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 1:00PM with Pastor Denver Burnside presiding. Interment will follow in the Union Mission Cemetery, New Milton. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 4-8PM and after 9AM on Wednesday until time of service.
