Danny Lynn McConnell, 74, of West Union, departed this life, Saturday, May 24, 2025 at home with his family by his side. Danny was born January 18, 1951, Clarksburg, WV. He is the son of the late Melvin Warren McConnell and Charleen Duckworth-McConnell. He graduated from Doddridge County High School, class of 1969. He went to Glenville State College for one year and transferred to Salem College where he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Art and was the kicker for the Salem College Football team. He taught for 38 years and retired from DCHS in 2011 but substituted for another 10 years. Danny coached varsity boys basketball in which he was the only coach that led his team to win a state title in 1994 in DCHS history, 4 years girls basketball, 7 years of baseball, track & field (shotput), assistant football and then head football coach up until he retired in 2011. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church (now Immanuel Fellowship Church). He liked to hunt, fish, draw and wood-burn. Danny was also awarded the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha Anne Matheny-McConnell whom he married in 1976. Surviving children, Danna Rae McConnell (Bobby Taylor) of New Milton, Kortni Ann Sandridge (Jeremiah) of West Union, Monica Blair Blake (Jeremy) of West Union, & Joseph Daniel McConnell (Brittany) of West Union, one sister, Alice Ann McConnell-Fultz (Lyle) of West Union and one brother, Joseph Lane McConnell (Marla) of West Union, 12 grandchildren: Johnathan Wayne Blake, Gabriel Parker Stewart, Cheyenne Rachelle Sandridge, Sienna Rhae Taylor, Audrey Ruth Blake, Kayleigh Marie Sandridge, Nathan R.W. Sandridge, Kyndal Reese McConnell, Easton Scott Blake, Hattie Joe McConnell, Zayden Warren Blake, Cye Ryan Blake and one great grandchild, Parker Wayne Taylor and many brother & sister n laws, nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends at Immanuel Fellowship Church on Wednesday, May 28 from 2:00-8:00 PM and Thursday, May 29 from 9:00-11:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Isaac Richards officiating.
