Charles Willis Obituary

Charles Chuck Willis, 88, of Howell St., West Union departed this life on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg. He was born December 15, 1923 in Blandville a son of the late Harry and Lena Polan Willis. He was preceded in death on December 11, 1969 by his first wife, Florence Melba Leasure Willis. On June 5, 1971 he married Wilma Lee Lipscomb Friend Willis who survives.

Mr. Willis is survived by five sons, Charles W. Willis, Falls Church, Va, Harry A. Willis, Myrtle Beach, SC, David L. Willis, Virginia Beach, VA, James A. Willis, Ripley, WV and Harold E. Willis, California, two step sons, James D. Friend, West Union, WV, Robert A. Friend, Clarksburg, WV, one brother, William F. Willis, Akron, OH, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hope Radar, Leah Virginia Waggoner and two brothers, H. Wayne Willis and Alfred L. Willis.



Mr. Willis was retired from the Doddridge County Board of Education, where he had been a custodian at the Doddridge County High School for 25 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving World War II in Italy and he was a member of V.F.W. Post #3408. He attended the Middle Island Seventh Day Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 1:00PM with Pastor Denver Burnside presiding. Interment will follow in the Freeman Cemetery, Route 18 N. Miltary graveside services will be conducted by the Combined Doddridge County Veterans Organizations. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Friday, March 16, 2012 from 4-8 PM and after 9AM on Saturday until time of service.
