Cecil Fisher Fling

Cecil Fisher Fling, 76 of West Union departed this life on Friday, August 12, 2016 in the Parkersburg Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 3, 1940 at Burnt House to the late Alvin and Boneta Tharp Fling. A proud graduate of Doddridge County High School, Cecil served in the United States Army as a Medic in Germany. He then returned to his home in Doddridge County and worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways for 25 years before his retirement in 1999. In his prime Cecil was active with the Doddridge County Fair Association, working with the entertainment committee.

Cecil is survived by son Mike (Michele) of Belleville, five step children, Pam Gum of Parkersburg, Steve (Ruth) Gum, Salem, Brenda (Joey)Bonnett, Clarksburg, Scott Gum, Clarksburg, Stephanie (Jeff) Starcher, Belpre, OH. Cecil was proud to be called "Grandpa" by eight grandchildren, Morgan and Mikala Fling, Steven and Christopher Gum, Haley Whiteman and Dakota Bull, McKinley and Sydney Starcher and one great grandson, Brennan Gum. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Michele Fling, his second wife Mary Jean Jenkins Gum Fling and his High School Sweetheart, Charlene "Chuck" Hudson.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 11:00AM with Pastor Jeff Stefanov officiating. Interment will follow in the K of P Memorial Park, Salem. Full military graveside rites will be accorded by the Combined Doddridge County Veterans Organizations. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 4-8PM. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Fling family.
