Beulah Beatrice Cottrill, 101 of Big Flint Rd. Salem went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 10, 2016 in her home. She was born on September 6, 1914 in Jackson County a daughter of the late Peter Earl and Emaline Smith Balis. On February 18, 1934 she married Jennings Lee Cottrill who preceded her in death in 1989.
Surviving are four daughters, Nancy Gregg and husband Franklin, Knoxville, TN, Betty Burnside, Janice Starkey and Joyce Stubbs and husband Jim, all of Salem, one son-in-law, Clyde Ford Jr. Salem, grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Ford, Clyde Maxwell Ford II and wife Kim, Chesna Annette Menear and husband Jim, Marvin Lee Ford and wife Tammy, Vera Lynn Laverne Smith, Denver Lee Burnside and wife Linda, Jeffrey Grant Burnside and wife Darlene, Victoria Ann Cumberledge and husband Bruce, D. Scott Burnside and wife Andrea, Deana Renee' Caldwell and husband James, Kimberly Denise Irby and husband Greg, Lisa Dawn Ravin and husband Carl, Kevin Stubbs and wife Rita, 28 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Beatrice Ford, one granddaughter, Rebecca Heflin, three sisters, five brothers, three sons-in-law, Charles Burnside, Dean Carpenter, Thomas Starkey and grandson by marriage, Tracy Smith. Mrs. Cottrill was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Cottrill was a graduate of Gilmore High School, Jackson County where she worked her way thru school as a switch board operator. She was the oldest member of Evergreen United Methodist Church. Beulah was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed cooking, quilting and spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Lighthouse Baptist Church, Salem on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 2:00PM with Pastor John Freeman officiating. Mrs. Cottrill will lie in state one hour prior to her service. Interment will follow in the Wolverton Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday April 12, 2016 from 2-8PM. Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family at www.spurgeonfunerals.com.
