Betty Lou Smith Swiger, 74, of New Milton went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 14, 1943 at Middlebourne to the late Ruben and Mimi Richmond Smith. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert Swiger.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert Jr. (Lisa) Swiger, New Philadelphia, OH, Tony (Denise) Swiger, Mineral City, OH, three daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Leggett, New Milton, Sandra (James) Cooper, New Philadelphia, OH, Kimberly (Kenneth) Moore, New Milton, grandchildren, Jeremy, Travis, Georgette, Jonathan, Cassandra, R.J., Anthony, Breanna, Kinzy, Caleb, Matt, Emma, Selena, Kendra and 15 great grandchildren, sister, Mary Wright, Weirton, brothers, Ruben Jr. Smith, Middlebourne, Don Smith, Wellsburg and several brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a loving mother-in-law, Myrtle Boyce Jones, three sisters, Freda Bailey, Imogene Smith, Donna Skinner, six brothers, Duane, Paul, Edwin, Carl, Kenneth and Robert Smith and a precious granddaughter, Alicia Cooper.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed crocheting and was a member of the Zion Pentecostal Temple.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 11AM with Pastor Tom Propst and Pastor Mitch Richards presiding. Interment will follow in the Hart Cemetery with a funeral dinner to follow at the Central Station Church of God. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alicia Cooper Memorial, P.O.
