Betty Jane Smith,82, of West Union passed away on Friday March 27, 2009 in her residence.
She was born on February 20, 1927 in Florence, PA a daughter of the late Hugh and Monna Lynch Duffield. On August 29, 1948 she married Nelson J. Smith who survives.
Surviving is one daughter Kimberly Plance and husband Shawn, West Union, two sons, Neil Smith and wife Marilyn, Morgantown, Rick Smith and wife Peggy, Blandville, seven granddaughters, Heather Mossor, Ashley Lake, Jessica Sheets, Melissa and Erica Smith, Carrie Anderson and Brandi McKinney, two great grandchildren, Destiny and Bryan Mossor and one sister, Hazel Carder, Cuyahoga Falls, OH. One brother Harold J. Duffield preceded her in death.
Mrs. Smith had worked for Dr. Allen in Clarksburg as a receptionist, the State of West Virginia, Department of Rehabilitation and the West Union Bank as a teller. She was a member of the West Union Baptist Church where she had served as church treasurer for 25 years. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday March 30, 2009 in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union at 1:00 PM with Pastor Todd Godby presiding. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, West Union. Family and friends may call in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, March 29th from 1-8PM and after 9AM on Monday until time of service.
