Betty Bowyer Obituary

Betty June Bowyer, 83 of Rt. 2 Salem (Big Flint Community) departed this life on Friday, July 15, 2011 in the United Hospital Center. She was born on April 23, 1928 in West Union a daughter of the late Carsie Delman and Loma Ethel Helmick Williams. On April 25, 1943 she married Carl A. Bowyer who preceded her in death on April 13, 1994.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda Carpenter and husband Larry, Parkersburg, Sheila McMillan and husband Philip, West Union, Jill Bode and husband David, West Union, seven grandchildren, Tarri Lewis, Anthony Carpenter, Matthew, Michael and Martin McMillan, Nicole Sleeth and Holly Chancellor, thirteen great grandchildren, one brother, Floyd L. Williams, Mobile, AL. One sister, Doris Jane Lohri preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bowyer was retired from the Doddridge County Board of Education as a cook at Carr Grade School with 21 years service. She was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church, where she served as pianist and clerk for 35 years, W.V 4-H All Stars,West Union Chapter #56 Order of the Eastern Star and Doddridge County CEOS.

Betty enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, making crafts, music and camping. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 18, 2011 in the Liberty Baptist Church, Big Flint Rd. at 11:00AM with Pastor Robert Marino presiding. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, West Union. The family will receive friends in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union on Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 2-8PM. Mrs. Bowyer will lie in state one hour prior to her service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Doddridge County 4-H Foundation Building Fund, Doddridge County Extension Office, 503A West Main St., West Union, WV 26456.
