Bertha Mae Edgell

Bertha Mae Edgell, 84, of Cascara Community, Salem passed away on Saturday September 26, 2009. She was born on October 12, 1924 in Doddridge County, the daughter of the late Claude and Rilda Stackpole Swiger. On July 24, 1991 she was preceded in death by her husband Donald George Edgell.

Surviving is three daughters; Deborah Underwood, and husband Rodney, Cascara Community, Salem, Beverly Lowman and husband Chris, Salisbury, NC, Kelly Miri, and husband Reza, Salem, three sons, Charles W. Edgell and wife Irene, New Cumberland, Donald K. Edgell and wife Helen, New Cumberland, Rodger R. Edgell and wife Beverly, Salisbury, NC, two sisters; Hollie Ashcraft, Doylestown, OH, Rita Ford, Salem and Barbara Robinson, who was like a sister, and one brother; Warren Swiger, Worland, WY, 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Two sisters, Sarah Louise Burkhammer, Bonnie Boyce and one brother, Loren Swiger, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Edgell was a homemaker, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, an avid bowler and loved to square dance. She was a member of the Cascara United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held in the Cascara United Methodist Church, Cascara, on Wednesday September 30, 2009 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Christian Church Cemetery, Center Point. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday September 29, 2009 from 2-8PM in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union. Mrs. Edgell will lie in state one hour prior to her service.
