Benny Lee Thomas

Benny Lee Thomas, 62, of Apple Grove, WV passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. Born on June 24, 1963, in Painesville, OH, Benny was the son of Carol Ann Davis Thomas of West Union and the late David Lee Thomas.

Benny lived a life rooted in hard work, quiet passions, and deep devotion to the people he loved. A proud graduate of Doddridge County High School, Class of 1981, he built a long and steady career, recently retiring from Alcon after 19 years of dedicated service as a production worker. Benny approached everything—work, family, and the simple joys of daily life—with the same steady, thoughtful presence that made him so deeply cherished.

He had a collector’s heart, finding beauty and history in clocks and radios. His hands were rarely still—tending to his garden, canning what he grew, or fixing something that needed care. Benny found joy in things that grew, things that ticked, and things that made noise—especially NASCAR engines roaring on a Sunday afternoon. And nothing brought him greater happiness than the companionship of his beloved dogs: Tucker, Tank, and Tink, who were never far from his side.

Along with his mother, Benny leaves behind his devoted companion of 12 years, Subrina Gebhardt; his daughter, Davetta Leann Thomas; and three grandchildren who brought light to his world—KaLeia Bowen, Dwayne Hicks Jr., and William Hicks. He is also survived by his aunt, Dixie Craig, and his uncle, John Davis, both of West Union; Subrina’s family who loved Benny, her son, Casey Gebhardt, her daughters, Jordan Poston, and Stephanie Bodmer (Eric), her grandchildren, Kennen, TY, and Knox as well as many cousins, and friends who will forever hold his memory close.

Family and friends will be received at Davis Funeral Home – West Union, 212 Front Street, West Union, on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 3–7 PM, and again on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Chad Ash officiating. Interment will follow at Masonic Memorial Park in West Union.

Those who loved Benny will remember him for his gentle spirit, his quiet wisdom, and the way he made everyday moments feel meaningful. May his memory continue to bring comfort and peace to all who knew him.
