Basil Frederick Dungan, 83, of West Union departed this life on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at United Hospital Center, Bridgeport. He was born on June 6, 1933 in Washington, DC a son of the late James and Hazel Timm Dungan. On February 2, 1970 he married Barbara Moran Dungan who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Doreen West, Maryland; two sons, Casey Dungan and his wife Neva, West Union and David Dungan, Baton Rouge, LA; five step daughters Barbara Baldwin, West Union, Janet Kernan, Susie Brady, Bonnie West, Maryland and Diane Casteel, Gilmer Co.; One sister Elizabeth Baldwin, Maryland; three brothers Tom, Robert and Larry Dungan of Maryland; twenty-eight grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Denise Smith and two step daughters, Patty Reamy and Millie Short.
Mr. Dungan was a retired Electrician for Balsom-Nantucket. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be sadly missed by his friends and family.
The family will receive friends in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 9:30AM to 11:30AM. Graveside services will be conducted in the W.V. National Cemetery, Pruntytown. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Dungan family.
