Anita Belle Brown, 93 of Greenwood departed this life on Monday, March 5, 2012 in the United Hospital Center. She was born at Pullman on January 5, 1919 a daughter of the late W.G. and Rebecca Schmidt Calhoun. Her husband of 51 years, Paul Henry Brown preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Margaret Ellen Dannecker, Waxahachie, TX, one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Brown, Springfield, MO, four grandchildren, Mrs. Kevin (Kathy) Harris, Waxahachie, TX, Erin Dannecker, Fulton, MO, Brian Brown and wife Vika, Chicago, IL, David Brown, Chicago, IL, one great granddaughter, Alyssa Harris, Waxahachie, TX.and one great grandson , Alex Brown. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Robert (Bettie Lee) Fox, Brunswick, Ga. and three brothers, William Calhoun, Greenwood, Jackson Calhoun, West Union and Rev. Samuel Calhoun and wife Ellen, Freehold, NJ and her sister-in-law, Helen Calhoun. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Blair Calhoun and Robert Calhoun.
Mrs. Brown graduated from Doddridge County High School in 1936and Mountain State College in 1939. She was a member of the Volunteer Nurses Aide Corps at Fairmont General Hospital during World War II. She was a Library Clerk for the Lubbock, Texas Public Schools until her retirement. She was a member of the West Union Christian Church and the Doddridge County Historical Society.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 2:00PM with Pastor David Watson presiding. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 4-8PM and after 9AM Thursday until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Doddridge County Historical Society.
